Updated: Feb 4

Duration 2 yrs

1 fellow taken every year

Selection- interview

Stipend 40k

First month is orientation

From 2nd month onwards you see OP and are posted with each consultant for 2-3 months

You are also started on steps in corneal surgeries from 2nd month

Chances for penetrating keratoplasties are quite less due to corneal donor tissues not being readily available (population not very motivated for eye donation)..

You start with therapeutic KPs first and then progress to optical KPs.. numbers not available.. for an estimate, the dept does around 3 keratoplasties per month

You also get hands-on for other corneal surgeries as and when they happen (pterygiums, C3R, AMG, MMG etc)

Lamellar surgeries are also done, fellows also get 1-2 cases of DALK towards end of fellowship

Refractive procedures (PRK, femtolasik) are also done in the dept but no hands-on given

Fellows learn pt selection and workup

No SMILE done here

No phaco training.

But if you know to do SICS, you may be called to do cataract cases.

Work timings 9- 5.30 pm

Classes every day at 8 am, compulsory attendance for all fellows, common class for all fellows

Dept is somewhat hectic but not toxic

Consultants are friendly and approachable

On call- you have at least 1 night call per month, 1 Sunday is hospital on call, another Sunday you are posted in their peripheral centre.

No camp duties.
